One Redeeming Quality

There were also spiders living in the washing machine, despite us using it twice during the week. Speaking of the laundry room, if you look up at the subfloor, you can see water damage and what looks like rot. There are several spots throughout the house where the floor is spongy, which I think is probably due to rot. This would also explain the smell in the house. The kitchen chairs are wobbly and we had to avoid using one of them altogether. The mattress in the main bedroom is terribly uncomfortable and would crinkle every time we would move in bed. The only redeeming quality of this house is the oceanfront location.

This was our first visit to Oak Island and this property helped make it one of our favorite beach destinations. The house was just the right size for my husband and I, and my parents who came down middle of the week. The location and area on the beach was perfect. What makes this house though is the back porch...I will never stay at another beachfront house without a covered porch! There were a few minor things that needed repairing that were addressed with the rental company, but nothing that would cause me to not book again. Maybe we will even be able to swing two weeks next time!

Sorry about Hurricane Isiais’ impact on the island (we almost didn’t get to come) but the lack of dunes made us feel all that closer to the ocean. We also really appreciate the town and MRA working so diligently to get things reopened so we could still have our vacation.

When we come back to vacation at OKI we always come to Going Coastal. It has been our favorite beach house rental since the ‘80’s. The owners keep it clean, and we love all the details like the blackout curtains, the gate that locks on the ocean front deck (that kept our littles safe), the natural wood interior. It comfortably suited our family of 5 on the oceanfront and we hope it will be this way for many more years!
