Crow's Nest [1]
Turn right out of the parking lot. Bear to the right at the light. At the third light turn left onto Middleton. Then go to the stop sign and turn right. The numbers will descend to 6002. The property is on the right.
Outstanding view!

Reviewed on 2021-08-03 by Cathy Lacienski , Charlotte, NC USACrow's Nest was perfect for our family group. We have been renting Copacetic and Kingfisher since the early 1990's and were thrilled to add Crow's Nest. We have kayaks and a sailboat so love being on the waterway as well as having easy beach access. Views from the house, and especially the Crow's Nest, were outstanding. The house was also great. The bedrooms were very nicely decorated and except for one, had their own bathrooms which was very nice. The kitchen was reasonably well equipped and we now know what to expect. Outdoor space and the garage were also a big plus. The outdoor shower could use some improvement. If it was upgraded a number of us would have used it which would reduce wear and tear on the inside showers. Margaret Rudd Realty was also excellent to work with, communication was easy and we much appreciated having keyless entry. We look forward to returning next year and for many years to come.

Great House
Reviewed on 2021-06-29 by D. Willlis , Fayetteville, North Carolina USAThis house was a great vacation rental. We enjoyed the pool at night as well as when the beach was too windy (a storm was coming). This house had everything we needed for items we didn't bring with us. A suggestion would be to provide an additional large trash can since we took trash out twice a day and the large trash can was full within a day or two. Also, an additional kitchen size trashcan in the kitchen. Again we enjoyed this home and all it had to offer. This would be a house we would rent again.

Great House - Great Service
Reviewed on 2020-10-14 by April Montgomery , Sanford, NC USACrow's Nest has plenty of room and GREAT views. We stayed for a week and worked/schooled virtually. Everyone had their own room and great connectivity - plus we could run out on the dock to fish or get in a quick kayak or SUP in between classes. Great sunrise and sunset views and plenty of room for extended family. We also really appreciated the responsiveness and personal service we received from the management company and every maintenance and delivery person we encountered. We would definitely rent this property again.

Overall, our family greatly enjoyed our stay at Crow's Nest. A few notes to help future renters:Positives - amazing and sweeping view of the sound (best we ever had), pool, dock, rooftop deck, and easy walk to the beach - all wonderful. Fantastic and quiet location. Living/Dining area - Very functional, however this area is much tighter than it appears in the photos. Mini fridge in the living area was a bonus! The dining table was huge and worked great for our group of 12, however the chairs desperately need replacing. Cushions were built in, so we could not remove them, and they were literally filthy and covered with numerous stains. Replacing the chairs with plain wooden chairs would be such an easy fix. Kitchen: We loved the spacious pantry drawer space and we found most pots/pans that we needed. Appliances (especially the stove) were a bit tricky to use, but they worked fine.Cleanliness - We do have a strong concern about the agency's cleaning service. Upon arrival, there were several trash items in the kitchen, bedrooms, outdoor stairs, and garage area (paper, wrappers, used water bottles, soiled t shirts, etc.), and rugs/floors were clearly not swept/vacuumed thoroughly (many not at all). We received a prompt response from the agency, where they quickly sent one person from an after hours agency, where she did a very basic and again, not thorough cleaning. This is a huge house, so one person cannot take responsibility for cleaning a 6 bedroom, 5 bath, 3 level house. We specifically requested the house be fully cleaned by more than one housekeeper on day 2, but the same person came alone again, which was unfair to both her and us. We learned that several Rudd rentals had the same issue the week we were there, also expressing dissatisfaction with the cleanliness and requesting additional cleaning. We were informed that the cleaning services are understaffed, where we certainly empathize with this challenge. However, the fact is we paid a very large amount to stay in this rental and were forced to focus the first 24 hours cleaning the dining table and counters (filled with crumbs from the last renters), sweeping, and wiping down bathrooms. Bathroom drain - One of the bathrooms' tubs was clogged and would fill up to our ankles during a short shower. To the agency's credit, they sent someone on day 2 to fix it, but a member of our group unknowingly sent them away, not clear on why they were there. We left a message at the agency to explain and asked if someone could return to fix it asap. We never received a response and no one ever came to address the issue again. We have stayed in various rentals for 15 years and understand that rentals get a lot of wear and tear and issues arise often. We are very flexible and easygoing, however we feel that any size rental - large or small, should be thoroughly clean before the renters arrive. The agency appears to have more of a reactive approach to solving these issues rather than looking at the bigger picture. With so many rentals per week and a large agency, we would suggest someone have the job of inspecting each house before it’s released to the renters. Such high prices should call for higher standards. As for our extended family, unless these changes occur, we will likely seek to work with another rental agency in the future.

As property owners, we think Margaret Rudd is by far the best property management company on Oak Island. This does not excuse the poor housekeeping situation that you encountered, and we hope Margaret Rudd did their best given their current resources to rectify the situation. We try to keep the property well maintained and nice for our renters. We have the kitchen chair seats professionally cleaned prior to the rental season; however, with heavy usage and traffic it is hard to keep them in tip top shape so far into the season. We appreciate your honest feedback with regard to the chairs, and we are recovering them immediately.
One of the reasons we purchased the home was the numerous outdoor spaces on the 2nd and 3rd floors (with the amazing views), and we likely felt that the outdoor space added much more living area to the home. We are sorry that it felt tighter, but we are open to any easily implemented changes that could increase the living space there without reducing the size of the dinner table.
We hope that our efforts combined with those of MRA help address some of our renters’ concerns, and we hope that you will return to Crow’s Nest for your next Oak Island vacation.
