US OPEN KING MACKEREL TOURNAMENT
Forty-six years ago a small group of community leaders met and decided that they needed an event to showcase the great fall fishing the Southport-Oak Island area has to offer. The prizes and expenses for the first tournament were guaranteed by those community leaders signing a promissory note at a local financial institution - thus the U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament was born. The U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament now attracts over 400 boats annually and is held in high esteem by the community and anglers.
Register for your opportunity to take part in this historic fishing event and a chance to win one of the coveted prizes. The tournament guarantees its entire prize structure; it is not based on the number of boats that participate. Thursday, October 3
- 10:00 am to 9:00 pm - Registration & Packet Pickup Open at Dutchman Creek Park
- 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm - Food Service by Easy Eats
- 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm - Entertainment by The Doorsmen
- 7:00 pm - Captain's Meeting at Dutchman Creek Park
Friday, October 4
- 7:00 am - Competition begins
- 11:00 am - Scales open at Dutchman Creek Park
- 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm - Food Service by Easy Eats
- 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm - The PointClickFish.com Team will livestream weigh-ins and Cape Fear Radio broadcasts live from tournament headquarters
- 4:00 pm - Check-in point manned at Southport Yoga Dock and Malcom Register Park
- 5:00 pm - Competition ends for the day
Saturday, October 5
- 7:00 am - Competition begins
- 11:00 am - Scales open at Dutchman Creek Park
- 11:00 am to 6:00 pm - Food Service by Wallace Catering
- 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm - The PointClickFish.com Team will livestream weigh-ins and Cape Fear Radio broadcasts live from tournament headquarters
- 3:00 pm - Check-in point manned at the Southport Yoga Dock and Malcom Register Park
- 4:00 pm - Competition ends for the day
- 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm - Entertainment by All Starz Band at Rusty Hooks Dockside Grill
- 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm - Captains from the 1st Place Overall and 1st Place Super High Roller TWT (as well as a randomly selected team's Captain) must present themselves at Tourney headquarters for polygraph
- 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm - Cape Fear Radio broadcasts live from Rusty Hooks Dockside Grill
- 8:00 pm - Awards ceremony at Rusty Hooks Dockside Grill
